If you have an accident

Accident recovery of your vehicle

1. BE SAFE

If you need accident recovery at night, turn on your vehicles' lights and/or hazard lights. Be seen to prevent a further collision. If all occupants are able, leave your vehicles and get to a place of safety off the carriageway. But don't move anyone who might have suffered an injury which, if they are moved, may cause their condition to worsen.

2. ASSESS THE SITUATION

Administer any First Aid necessary. Check none of the vehicles are smoking or burning. Check for spilt fuel or oil. Call the emergency services for any serious injuries or fire hazard. Call the Police if you suspect any driver is under the influence of drink or drugs or may have caused the accident deliberately.

3. RECORD THE DETAILS

Once everyone is safe and looked after, if you have a camera, take photos of the scene. It may help with any insurance claim. Then swap insurance details with any other driver(s) involved. Be sure to make a note of the makes, models and registration numbers of all vehicles involved for your insurance company.
